BEIJING, May 12, China University of Petroleum hosted a grand symposium marking the one-year anniversary of studying and implementing the important letter from Chinese President Xi Jinping to Central Asian students of the school. The symposium aimed to share progress, achievements, and experiences in implementing the letter’s directive, highlighting the educational achievements of international students in China. It also systematically summarizes the achievements and experiences of open education, fostering collaboration among the government, universities, and enterprises to jointly tell the story of China, its energy sector, and the story of Chinese youth in the new era.

Jin Yan, the President of China University of Petroleum (Beijing) ,hosted the symposium.

During the symposium, the participants watched a first-anniversary themed video titled "Walking Together ,Sharing the Future," which focused on studying and implementing the important reply letter from Chinese President Xi Jinping to the Central Asian students of China University of Petroleum (Beijing). The video highlighted the university's efforts over the past year to embody the spirit of President Xi's important reply letter, covering three main areas: profound study and comprehension, bold mission undertaking, deepening openness and cooperation for win-win results, as well as embracing global cooperation and cultivating talents.

Xi Ru gave full recognition to China University of Petroleum (Beijing)’s efforts in studying and implementing the important letter of President Xi Jinping. She remarked tht the important reply letter from President Xi to the Central Asian students of China University of Petroleum (Beijing) reflects the high importance placed on educational work, providing direction and fundamental guidance for promoting high-level education openness in the new era. Over the past year, under the guidance of the important reply letter from General Secretary Xi, China University of Petroleum (Beijing) has optimized the global cooperation network layout, strengthened the support of international cooperation and exchanges for talent cultivation, discipline construction, and scientific and technological innovation, particularly focusing on the "Belt and Road" and clean low-carbon energy development. Considerable progress has been made in all these areas.

She emphasized that this event should be seen as an opportunity to adhere to mutual benefit and win-win results, promote the construction of "double first-class" universities through international cooperation and exchanges, and comprehensively improve the quality of independent talent cultivation. There should be a focus on integrating industry and education, fostering in-depth interdisciplinary integration and cross-field, cross-border academic exchanges and scientific research cooperation. This will continuously enhance the ability of education's to develop independently and the level of serving economic and social development. We should adhere to mutual learning, strengthen international understanding and cross-cultural communication, cultivate a solid public opinion foundation for building a community with a shared future for mankind, and make new contributions to promoting the development of international relations for the benefit of people worldwide.

Fan Rong, the Deputy Director-General of the Department of European and Asian Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, pointed out that the important reply letter from President Xi Jinping to the Central Asian students of China University of Petroleum (Beijing) reflects the General Secretary's care and love for them and underscores the General Secretary's commitment to deepening the relations between China and Central Asian countries. China University of Petroleum (Beijing) has been long engaged in Central Asian countries, achieving remarkable results in cultivating cooperative talents, spreading Chinese culture, and fostering intergenerational friendship.

He emphasized that the first anniversary of studying and implementing the important reply letter spirit of President Xi Jinping should be used as an opportunity to promote inter-school exchanges, strengthen cooperation with various Central Asian institutions in joint education, joint scientific research, and teacher team building, as well as further enhancing the level of China-Central Asia educational cooperation. As the lead unit of the Youth Working Group of the "One Belt, One Road" Energy Cooperation Partnership Network, China University of Petroleum (Beijing) has actively taken on responsibilities, playing a significant role in cultivating cooperative talents, promoting cultural exchanges, and encouraging youth innovation. Xiong stressed that it is crucial to implement the spirit of President Xi Jinping’s reply, vigorously cultivate young talents in the energy industry, deepen scientific and technological cooperation in the energy field, and explore new modes of energy exchange to cultivate more young talents and contribute positively to building a closer China-Central Asia community with a shared future.

Wang Tongqi, the Party Secretary of China University of Petroleum (Beijing), warmly welcomed the leaders and guests attending the symposium on behalf of the university, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the superior units, embassies and consulates, energy companies, and sister universities that have long supported the development of the university. Wang noted that over the past year, the university has earnestly grasped the profound meaning and spiritual essence of President Xi Jingping’s important reply. The university has consistently adhered to the guidance of the spirit of the important reply, integrating its study, promotion, and implementation of its spirit with thematic education. This effort has also been aligned with the study and implementation of President Xi's important reply to the graduates of the university's Karamay campus, as well as the promotion of the goal of high-quality development of the university in the new era. As a result, the ideological alignment and unity of action within the university have strengthened, boosting enthusiasm for work and entrepreneurship. This year marks the first anniversary of President Xi Jinping's reply to the Central Asian international students of our university, as well as the 30th anniversary of the university resuming the enrollment of international students from China. We hope to take this event as an opportunity to further study and implement the spirit of the important reply, consolidate forces from all parties, and effectively transform the spirit of the important reply into an inexhaustible driving force for accelerating the construction of world-class universities and promoting the high-quality development of higher education. Our goal is to make new and greater contributions to the "Belt and Road" and building a community with a shared future for mankind.

Wang emphasized the unwavering commitment to taking President Xi Jinping's important reply as the fundamental guideline for running the university, striving to transform the spirit of the reply into vibrant practice in advancing the new journey and contributing to the new era. The university will also focus on aligning with the country's and region's strategies for opening up, striving to unlock new areas and create new situations in promoting the integration of education, science and technology, talent, and comprehensive services for major national and regional development strategies. This effort is intended to create a new avenue in advancing high-level open education. Additionally, the university will uphold its mission of strengthening education and contributing to energy development, aiming to develop a new method for promoting energy cooperation, advancing green energy development, and building a strong energy nation.

Bian Dezhi, General Manager of China Petroleum Central Asia Russia Company, represented the business sector; Yang Renshu, President of University of Science and Technology Beijing, represented the academic institutions; Sui Weibo, Professor from the Petroleum Engineering School, represented the faculty; Li Gaochao, Deputy General Manager of CNPC Aktobe Oil and Gas Company (Kazakhstan), represented the joint training program partners; and Kayipov Yershyt, General Manager of China-Kazakhstan Natural Gas Pipeline Joint Venture Company, represented the university's international alumni. They all expressed their commitment to being guided by the important letter spirit of President Xi Jinping and contributing wisdom and strength to promoting people-to-people connectivity and building a community with a shared future for mankind.

At the conference, a launch ceremony was held to mark the cooperation and joint construction between enterprises and universities. Zhenhua Oil Holding Limited, CNPC Aktobe Oil and Gas Company (Kazakhstan), CNPC Shymkent Refinery (Kazakhstan), and the China-Kazakhstan Natural Gas Pipeline Joint Venture Company will collaborate with China University of Petroleum (Beijing) to continuously deepen and consolidate their cooperation in the new era. They will explore new models for jointly cultivating high-level energy talents through university-enterprise cooperation, providing stronger talent and technological support for energy cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative.

The first batch of ten national education practice bases for international students at China University of Petroleum (Beijing) were announced at the conference, including the Confucian Temple and Imperial College Museum; the Ming Tombs Management Center in Changping District, Beijing; the Beijing Folk Museum; the Daqing Oilfield Historical Exhibition Hall/Iron Man Memorial Hall; the Bohai Drilling Staff Education and Training Center; the Zhangjiakou Energy Industry Development Association; and the Dameng Subdistrict in Zhongmu County, Henan Province.

Prior to the meeting, Wang Tongqi and Jin Yan accompanied the guests to visit the "Walking Together ,Sharing the Future" themed exhibition to learn and implement the important letter of reply from General Secretary Xi Jinping.
